Arlene daniel

Although born with a love of art and drawing, Arlene would not take her first art class until her two children were in school and once she started, she never stopped. Continuously striving for growth and mastery over her craft, Arlene has been painting for over 30 years, studying under the likes of Scott Burdick and Susan Lyons, Kenn Backhaus, Kim English and Dawn Whitlaw. She uses a variety of media, focusing mainly on oil, pastel, and charcoal, and works both in plein air and from photo reference.

Her biggest inspiration is the play of light in a scene. Arlene knows how the changing of light, the play of dramatic shadows or a diffused mood, can turn an ordinary scene into something extraordinary. She’s particularly drawn to golden hour paintings, loving the dramatic but peaceful lighting. Many of her works are soft, with an emphasis on color and the expanse of the bucolic landscapes. She strives to develop paintings that speak to not only herself but others around her to the beauty that surrounds us. Her passion pushes her to ever grow her skills, always looking to challenge herself in her strive for excellence.

Her current studio is in Winston Salem NC, where she and her husband, Russell, reside.
