Jean roberts

Jean has loved art since she was a little girl and always loved drawing. It was not until she retired from Appalachian State University that she felt she had the time and energy to give to painting. When she moved to Weaverville, NC she was told about a teacher (“miracle worker”, as she describes him) who introduced her to oil painting.

“The first time the brush loaded with oil pigment touched the canvas, I felt as if I had come home.” she said. And she has never looked back. She continues to take weekly class with her teacher, Bob Travers and declares she will be a “lifer”.

Her works are not limited to one subject. Landscapes, coastal scenes, farms, people/figures,and animals are some of the themes in her two years of painting. While her style is more realism, she strives to make her work “painterly” and to evoke an emotion from the viewer.
