Kelly Logan Graham
Kelly Logan Graham lives in Bluffton, SC near the May River. Born in southern New Mexico in 1957, and raised in Blowing Rock, NC, Graham graduated from North Carolina State University School of Design in Raleigh, in 1981, where he studied under accomplished teachers including Joe Cox and Ray Musselwhite.
Kelly paints from his home studio and on location. Specializing in plein-air landscapes and waterscapes, Graham’s earliest paintings were watercolors, but in recent years oils have been his preference. Graham’s latest work focuses on aerial and topographic paintings of the Appalachian and Smokey mountains where he grew up. Graham’s art is in private and corporate collections in the US and the UK. He has painted in Europe, the Bahamas and the Caribbean during his travels.
“I have always been intrigued by the horizon, and the subtle contrasts of shade and shape that define distance and scale. I try to create art with a sense of time and place. Vibrant, layered color is a hallmark of my most recent paintings, which have a subtle balance between impressionism and representational contemporary art. The application of paint in my work approaches impasto, delivered in rich strokes of color that define the vigorous attempt to capture light and form. Every painting has a foundation in drawing, a passion that I have enjoyed my entire life. Often, I find myself striving to retain the freshness and integrity of those first sketches and brushstrokes.”
